The queen Elejabeth’s special envoy Raphal Kich have come Sonargaon in 1586. The famous Moroccan traveler Ibn Battuta came here to know the tradition stood on the shore of Meghna in 1345. More came here Phahiyen, Chinese navy Captain Kanchulo greet us waving his hand. Here came Hazrat Shahjalal (R:) to preach Islam. The city was the capital at one time of an independent country. Ancient Bengal tiny independent country Sonargaon was the political mode of Delhi court to be 8 miles long and 30 to 40 miles beside a countery was Sonargaon. Entire state was known as just Sonargaon. The name of the state’s capital was Sonargaon. In Sonargaon city there have a museum. In 1975 Bangladesh Government made this museum on behalf of Joynul Abedin. The area of museum was known as “Boro Sorder Bari”. It also Known as Esha Kha’s Capital. Here also have a library, Karupolli and a big lake. In the museum there has some domestic materials, dresses, ornaments of Sultani period. Here also have some ancient coins of Bengle. In the museum ground floor there has many painting of Joynul Abedin. Every Bangla New Year here arranges a fair. There also has a canteen for the visitors.

Time Schedule

Weekly holiday is Wednesday and Thursday. Friday to Tuesday open time is 10 AM of the morning and close time 6:30 PM of the evening.

Adult Bangladeshi visitors = 20 TK per person,
Other foreign visitors = 200 TK per person

Way to Go

It is 24 kilometers far from Dhaka and 1 kilometer far from Murgapara bus stand. You can go Sonargaon by any bus of Narayanganj. You will get the bus of Narayanjanj in Gulistan Maulana Bhasani Hocky Stadium Dhaka and you have to stop at Mugrapara Bus Stand. From there you have to take a rickshaw for going Sonargaon and it will cost 20 taka as rickshaw rent fee.
